I follow my attractions. Each project starts with soft, easy care yarn. Colour combinations are inspired by what I see in nature--bark, feathers, moss, beach rocks.
I love merino yarn from independent Canadian dyers, artists in their own right.
While working, I keep my yarn in a Buddhist monk alms bowl I purchased from its maker in Thailand. The bowl gently rocks to the steady slow rhythm of each pull, each loop. It is a gentle reminder to infuse the work with good intentions.
The final step is a gentle soak to relax the yarn fibers, and give shape and texture to the garment. I add a gemstone bead for good energy, and imagine that each project leaves my hands on Gambier Island to bring someone joy and comfort for a long time.
A new project always begins with intention and the vision of a finished item that will be cherished, soaked with tears of happiness and grief, and passed on from mother to daughter until it is worn out and ready to return to the earth. I am learning and perfecting traditional techniques and adding my own touch with unusual colour combinations of natural fibres, and quietly weaving beauty into everyday life.
